Facility Master Plan Update

On Sunday, May 19 the Site and Space Task Force received very positive support from the congregation for moving forward with hiring a design-build firm to (1) provide an updated schematic drawing of the conceptual Master Plan that would incorporate their recommended changes to improve construction feasibility and reduce costs and (2) provide a design plan and detailed cost estimate for a standalone project that would provide more office space while creating two additional meeting rooms as well as a playground and security doors for the preschool. The congregational vote in support of this action was 181-yes, 12-no, and 3-abstain.
As a result of the affirmative congregational vote the following actions have taken place or are planned:
- A Request for Proposals (RFP) was sent to five local Design-Build Firms on May 20th, and we received two proposals in response to our RFP.
- Pastor Scott and the Site and Space lay leaders reviewed the two proposals and decided to go with the firm with the lowest total service fees if that firm’s references checked out well.
- After receiving very positive feedback via phone calls made to contacts provided for four church projects referenced in their proposal, Michael Kinder & Sons (MKS) was selected last week to complete the work outlined above. Note: Funding to cover the cost of their work was included in the 7-month budget approved by the congregation on May 19th.
- On July 10 the Site and Space Task Force will be meeting with representatives of MKS, and the architectural firm that works with them, to provide them with additional input and answer any questions they have related to completing these tasks.
- On Sunday morning, August 25 we will be holding a special congregational meeting to provide MKS the opportunity to present the outcome of their work. At this same congregational meeting, the board’s Site and Space Task Force will provide a potential plan for raising funds that would be needed for construction of the standalone project described above.
- A congregational vote will then be taken at the August 25th meeting on whether to authorize MKS to move forward with developing construction plans and other required pre-construction documents for item #2 above. If approved and implemented this construction project will address our short-term facility expansion related ministry needs.
- Before any actual construction would begin, an agreement with MKS would include a maximum allowable cost for the completed project.
